The Threshold -- Short Film

come-john-610-217

Inspired by Crossing the Threshold of Hope and Spe Salve this short film explores a couple's need to detach themselves from the 60's which glues them to false ideals.  John and Emily live in a dilapidated old farm house on the edge of despair. A visit from two mysterious "flower children" youth challenge and expose their souls and unravel their deep-most mystery -- why MIT's star professor of physics and the campus "rainbow girl" live a dark hidden life in the squalor of an abandoned house?

The Threshold is a short film whose principle photography was completed in 2008 over the course of 4 days, despite the forcast of rain, through the valiant efforts of a dedicated team of unpaid actors and crew. As such, it is technically a "student film" that attempts to push the envelop of what can be accomplished with little to no time, no budget, in the telling of a poetic story of hope. Inspired by Crossing the Threshold of Hope and Spe Salve the flm explores a couple's need to detach themselves from those 60's cultural elements which glue them to false ideas of love and hope.

Here is a preview of the long form (draft) openning sequence. The final edit has now been completed (July 2010) and a preview will be made available here shortly.

Teaser

It is a typical day in the country. After a long winter, a lazy spring has finally arrived. The ground has softened enough to be tilled and to receive seed. Two couples with "history" take the opportunity, a sunny reprieve, to get together and spend the day.

John and Emily have lived in the "old farm house" forever, or so it seems. They are attached to the place. But Shane and Katie's youthful arrival brings with it a sharp challenge that exposes the older couple's bare security and unravel their deep-most mystery -- why MIT's star professor of physics and the campus "rainbow girl" live a dark hidden life in the squalor of an abandoned house?

Every story has two sides. This one has a third.
