It is the story of the lover Chrysostom whose demise is blamed on Marcela, a noble woman forced by her exceeding beauty to retreat into the mountains to live the life of a shepherdess.

Penned by John O'Brien and Anton Casta, this adaptation of Michael O'Brien's hugely popular apocalyptic novel brings to screen the gripping tale of Father Elijah Schäfer, a Carmelite priest, on a secret mission for the Vatican which embroils him in a series of crises and subterfuges affecting the ultimate destiny of the Church and the world.

It is 1968, the Prague Spring and a brief amnesty of hope in the east while the west revels in the summer of love. Two silent monochrome figures come out of the shadows, spiritual partisans, they've found each other in the solidarity of suffering that throws lives together and now threatens to tear them apart.
